We Dance Wee Groove is an eclectic and interactive performance which is sure to engage any little mind. With two shows, one aimed at the under fives’ and another for children aged 5-7, the production is a mix of lively and artistic dance styles sewn together with a soundtrack of songs from the last five decades – a collection which, we are sure, will please any parent.

Before we enter the theatre, we are given a short introduction by one of the cast members. She tells us about the slightly unusual nature of the show – for one, there are no seats, we are asked to sit in a large round circle and invited to join in the dances (and take a lead from our children!) She also tells us that we will be taken on a journey around the world – our curiosity immediately takes over and we begin to wonder what we might find inside the theatre.

As we enter, two cast members lay on the floor, waiting to rise as the tempo increases. Clapping and stamping, the children are encouraged to come forward and take part. A collection of songs take over, without giving too much away, the look of glee on parents faces says it all, as we are taken back in time with classic songs familiar to us all – from hip hop to jazz, ballet to pop, the choice of music is key to allow children to appreciate their surroundings.

Lighting effects are skillfully used to make the audience feel at one with the setting, which included walking in an urban city scene, swinging like monkeys through the jungle, floating on the moon, swimming like fishes in the sea and lots more!

A highly inclusive experience, it was truly encouraging to see toddlers (and their parents) joyfully immersing themselves in this well-choreographed and imaginative dance show. A brilliant way for little ones to explore the art of dance and music. We danced, Wee grooved – and we had a lot of fun doing it!

Love,
