The wonderful M6 Theatre Company always delivers a perfect dose of family theatre, and their latest production Tadpoles is no exception. Heartwarming and adventurous, this is a show that grows on the audience right from the start.

While the children in the theatre witness two super heroes, Captain Clever and Captain Conker, working to save the world, or rather failing at it, the parents in the audience see an all too familiar snapshot of siblings’ playtime.

Imagination a plenty, the competitiveness and bickering gets the better of our captains, until their mother, aka Mission Control, gives them one last chance to work out their differences…or else capes off! Yes, capes confiscated! No superhero could ever be seen without their cape and so they decide that in order for them not to argue, one of them has to be in charge. But who?

As they fight to prove themselves the better captain, the energy beaming off Luke Walker (Captain Clever) and Emily Spowage (Captain Conker) is infectious. Their comic timing is excellent, making the audience laugh and cheer for both of them at the same time. Ultimately though, when a real crisis comes to light, it is then that the brother and sister pair realise that they are twice as strong and as clever when they work together.

If only all playdates would end on such a cheerful note. But for now, brothers, sisters and friends in the audience are left with a smile on their faces and a rather super spring in their steps after a fantastic hour of theatre with the squabbling captains.

Tadpoles is currently on tour and you can catch the show on 5th March in London at the Stratford Circus Arts Centre.
