An Ode to the Sponge
Battersea Arts Centre
4 months - 4 years
28 Nov - 30 Dec 2017
From £10
Tuesday 14 November 2017

Just in time to warm us up for the chilliest frostiest season, it’s the squishiest squashiest show for babies, young children and their grown-ups! Sponge is a soft, bouncy and silly adventure perfect for a first theatre trip.

Created by immersive experience masterminds Turned On Its Head and set to a 70’s soundtrack, the show uses dance and physical comedy to charming effect in a celebration of the humble sponge. Two sponge-clothed performers combine playful visual sequences and audience participation to create a silly atmosphere bound to encourage theatre-newbies to join in. Brightly coloured buckets and sponge rainfalls are used to gain giggles of delight from the audience, and a huge effort is made to include participation from the shyer kids too. Although created for ages 4 months to 4 years, there are specially dedicated baby-only performances for a gentler experience for those under 18 months too.

Creating a positive first theatre experience isn’t easy, but this highly amusing take on an early years show is bound to evoke smiles all around. This celebration of the squishiness and silliness of sponges sounds simply delightful!

Sponge is on at Battersea Arts Centre from 28th November to 30th December 2017. For more information or to book tickets, please visit the website.
