With repeated retellings, some tried-and-tested fairytales can get tiresome, but this riotous production of the lesser told Snow White and Rose Red will surprise you with its unexpected twist to the traditional plot. Running as part of Battersea Arts’ Reclaiming the Classics programme, this mischievous adventure follows two very different sisters as they embark on a musical quest in search of justice, love and friendship.

With contemporary themes and nods to the original Brothers Grimm tale, the show was defined by Exeunt Magazine as an ‘entertaining, brilliant and feminist alt panto’. RashDash theatre company make their production a story within a story, as the action kicks off with the two sisters reading a book that’s missing an ending. The duo are wild opposites, as Snow White likes painting and telling stories, whilst Rose Red likes racing with animals, sometimes even competing with wolves! Journeying deep into the woods, they come together for a good cause, battling blizzards, climbing mountains and showing us how multi-faceted feisty female heroes can be. If the popularity of Elsa and Anna are anything to go by, we’re sure this duo will be a hit.

With a wild cast including a bear with a particular fondness for flowery notes in his tea, Snow White and Rose Red is an eclectic show mixing everything from rock music to shadow puppetry, making for a particularly refreshing festive family treat, ready to earn its place as a fresh favourite!

Snow White and Rose Red is on at Battersea Arts Centre from 29th November – 30th December 2017. For more information or to book tickets, please visit the website.
