We all know it’s nice to have hobbies outside of our home, however after several sessions of Zumba and sweating it out at Bikram Yoga, we wanted to find something a little bit more meaningful. So, we were thrilled when we stumbled upon Photography for Parents.

Taking a photography class can be rather daunting with all the technical jargon, expensive studio gimmicks and the intimidatingly artistic teacher. But this is where Photography for Parents is different. Established by a mother for mothers, it’s all about catering for the needs of parents in a relaxed and comfortable environment.

Everyone is in the same boat, so there is absolutely no need to be nervous. Teaching you to create lifestyle photography, these classes show you how to make the most of the camera you have (no more mysterious buttons that you fear to press!) whatever environment you’re in; whether it’s a big life hurdle like graduating from reception (sob, sob), or just an ordinary moment like eating a plate of spaghetti.

In many cases tiny tots – who can’t yet walk – can be brought to class, meaning you put theory into practice straight away. And the fabulous teachers, children’s photography professionals, are always on hand to offer immediate advice. The workshops follow the rule that practice makes perfect, meaning you’re encouraged to do homework and snap away outside of class as well inside, although we assure you this is no chore! Thanks to the personal, weekly follow-up emails from the teachers, offering encouragement and feedback, you won’t want to put your camera down.

And the proof is in the pictures. When we met the lovely Ania, founder of Photography for Parents, we were truly touched by the investment she had in her students and the pride she took when showing off their work. Her astute understanding and incredible passion for photography, which she is so willing to share, together with the flexible approach to cater for parents’ needs, make these classes so successful. Ania truly loves what she does, and we think you’ll love it too!

The course can be taken little by little in a series of 1 hour sessions over five weeks, or you can delve straight in with the more intensive weekend course. If you are worried to commit to five sessions, knowing all too well that realistically you’d only be able to make three (teething, doctor’s appointments, last minute school projects,…), Ania, being a mum herself, is incredibly accommodating and will offer to rebook any missed sessions at no cost.

This month Photography for Parents is celebrating its 2nd birthday and to mark the occasion, and the fact that they have taught over 300 parents during this time, there’s a 30% discount on all of their summer courses. With this fantastic incentive, it’s hard not to be tempted. So, get busy booking and happy snapping!

Love,
Curious Mum
