Footwear for Trendy Tots

Thursday 10 July 2014

With such an overwhelming selection of glamorous shoes on the market, from fancy flip flops to catwalk masterpieces, it amazes us that when it comes to children’s shoes, there is still relatively little choice, especially here in Britain. It’s not surprising that so many fashion conscious parents find themselves buying most of their children’s footwear in Italy or France, giving preference to the originality of continental design and its superior quality.

Not willing to wait for our next trip to the South of Europe, we were looking for a worthy alternative to satisfy all our summer needs from pretty sandals and flip flops to smart shoes and glittering ballerinas right here in the heart of London. Our search led us to Papouelli, which might sound Italian, Spanish or even Greek, it is in fact none of the above. Papouelli has been originally created by two London mums Maggie and Nicole, later joined by Felicia, who met at their children’s school gate about 10 years ago to discover that they both share the passion for fashion and design and the frustration of buying shoes for their children.

They started off by creating school shoes. According to Maggie, it was really hard to find large school shoes as many British shoe manufactures have overlooked the fact that children’s feet have become larger over generations. Papouelli school shoes were an instant hit as they were smart, comfortable, hard wearing and of course the right size! Today the brand has expanded into offering the most gorgeous baby shoes, from soft shoes to first walkers, all the way to teenage shoes and even some individual clothing items (we heard their cashmere collection is coming out soon!).

It’s hard not to fall in love with Papouelli, the design is simply gorgeous, easily competing with any leading continental brand; their butterfly logo is adorable and reason enough to purchase their ballerinas. The girls’ shoes are sophisticated yet with enough sparkle to make them girlie and irresistible. The boys’ shoes are smart yet contemporary. Most importantly though, all their shoes are practical, hard wearing and of superb quality. But don’t just take our word for it, visit one of their shops to see for yourselves, and now that the sale is on, you can really treat those little feet!
