Get into the Groove
Sunday 17 January 2016

There is something very satisfying about keeping a promise you made to yourself. It’s a feeling we’re experiencing now as one of our New Year’s resolutions was to find more stimulating after school activities. In our search, we came across a rather groovy dance company that offers street dance classes, holiday workshops and themed parties.

What makes Dance Grooves particularly appealing is the company’s commitment to hiring only professional performers. From dancers to actors to professional cheerleaders (yes, cheerleaders too!) the entire organisation bursts with enormous energy, creativity, professionalism, and last but not least the entertainment factor. These are teachers that clearly love what they do because they’re doing it every day on stage across London’s theatres…don’t be surprised if you spot one or two familiar faces.

Led by a charismatic mother of two, Emily Reed, Dance Grooves epitomises the way after school activities are run. “There’s so much confinement at schools and pressure on performance that I wanted to introduce an activity which, while structured, offers a lot of freedom, a way for children to be themselves and let off steam whilst learning something new. Dance is universal, it’s a skill for life – it helps with concentration, boosts confidence and ultimately, it’s fun.”

Emily, being a mother herself, knows the difficulty of committing to an after school class. This is why Dance Grooves offer private classes that parents can book for a group of friends, fitting the timings around everyone’s schedule, location and dance style preferences, be it tab, ballet, street or anything in between. Not only can the private classes be more cost-effective, the teachers are also happy to travel anywhere in London.

And it’s not just the dance classes that have caught our attention, the creativity running through the entire team especially shines when it comes to their personalised dance parties and themed holiday workshops. Be it a birthday celebration, a Halloween party or a half term club, Emily and her wonderful group of teachers will pull out all the stops to create a very special day for everyone to remember.

It seems Dance Grooves have truly found a very good way of letting children express themselves…and we all need a release after school. With a shimmy over here, a moonwalk over there and taking over the entire floor to bust some moves with top teachers, Dance Grooves is definitely one name you should consider adding to you little black book of worthwhile children’s entertainment.
